A Vent on Brick

The brick we originally selected is in the top photo. The brick in the middle photo is from our friends, the Garrison's, new home at RB. Our actual brick is in the bottom photo. All three bricks are called St. Charles. Maybe it is just Aaron and me, but we believe there is a distinct difference in the base color of our brick in comparison to the other two bricks. Granted, the mortar is different in all three examples but you can still see the difference in the main undertone color of the brick. We wanted the richer red undertones, but instead ended up with this dark grey brick. The spots of dark grey and light grey/white were intentional in all the brick colors.

I'm a bit disappointed with the unexpected change in the base color of the brick and just wish we had been warned prior to it being installed. We noticed the difference once the flats of brick arrived, but it was too late to do anything about it. We had a particular, more aged look in mind and dark grey brick does not reflect that. The red undertones are much more in keeping with the colors of older homes and deep grey or brown brick is much more of a contemporary look, and one that we did not want for our house. I'm sure the differences are hard to see in these photos, but when you look at other houses that chose the same brick as ours that are already built, you can truly see the difference. Oh well! Thanks for letting me vent!
