I've been thinking more about the word "super" and who in my life I deem "super." My mom is pretty super! I still call her "super mom" and feel she has secret "super powers" that only the rest of us could dream of having. I swear I don't know when the woman sleeps. Growing up, our house was ALWAYS clean...despite having 6 banshees running through it on a daily basis. We didn't leave the house until all of our rooms were clean and beds made, and she has somehow figured out how to get us (her children) to do that before we left for school every morning. We always had lunches everyone else wanted and the best snacks (the kind your friends come over for because their moms won't buy them!) She washed like 10 loads of clothes a day, and unlike in my house they would all be folded and put away at the end of the day. Our yard was (and still is) immaculate. The woman loves to mow and has the most incredible green thumb! At the end of every month, all the pictures on the walls and knick-knacks on the shelves would come down and she'd change the entire house for the next holiday/season. It was incredible, as if elves lived there or something! And even though she already had 6 kids in the house, my mom would always let us each have a friend over. On a normal Friday or Saturday night, there were anywhere from 8 to 12 kids (including ourselves) spending the night in our house. Despite all of this, my mom still worked in my dad's veterinarian clinic every afternoon and on Saturday mornings. She knew every client and even there pet's names. She volunteered at our school, and drove us all to practices (piano, track, cheerleading, gymnastics, etc.) In her free time, she'd even help her friends and our friends moms redecorate a room, paint, or sew. Now that my dad has passed away, she's raising two of her children alone and keeping her grandkids on a regular basis. She's also become "mom" to several other precious teens who needed someone. All in all, this woman...my mom...is "super"ior in my book!!!

Super?!
As I sit here reading friends blogs (really the titles of their blogs), I realize how odd our blog title is to me. I actually didn't come up with the name. It was one of Aaron's great ideas. It is a nice name for a blog, but I'm not sure what is so "super" about it. Most days I feel far from having done anything "super" or "super"ior.
This has been a very long 12 days! Last Saturday (May 16th) was the weekend of the Regions Charity Classic. We went and ate lunch in the hospitality room for residents and then visited with neighbors at a crawfish boil. It was a yucky day outside and we were dodging rain clouds as we left our house on foot. I wasn't feeling so hot when we left that morning, and by that afternoon I was in need of a long nap. Aaron and I watched a few episodes of 24 and then I slept for almost 3 hours! I didn't get out of the bed or off the couch again until Monday afternoon, and that was only so that I could start packing for our trip to Mobile. Of course, the boys came down with what I had and we have spent the last 12 days sick with one illness to the next! Finally, today, the clouds are parting and I can see a healthier weekend ahead (and maybe even a small ray of sunshine!)
All that to say, I'm not sure why our blog is called "The Dettling SuperBlog." I know we have a good life, even a great life filled with God's abundant gifts. But, I wouldn't classify us as "super." Oh well, maybe God will teach me through this curious thought.

Big Boy Ain't Hurtin'
Noah had his 4 month check-up today & here are his stats:
Head Circumference - 17 1/4 (95th percentile)
Weight - 17 lbs. 2 oz. (90th percentile)
Length - 27 inches (Off the Charts!!!)
To once again put this into perspective, here are Jame's 18 month check-up stats:
Length - 31 inches
Weight - 24 lbs
I suppose I'm starting to believe that nursing does play some role in how a baby grows. I used to think James was a big baby and attributed that to him drinking formula rather than BM excusively starting at 3 months. I still tend to believe it all lies in the greater truth that God individually sculpts us in His perfect image with a perfect plan for each of us. I may not be happy with the body I'm in right now, but He's given me this body to care for babies and my husband, and in that I find joy.
On another note, I've had several people ask me how old Noah was and respond with a look of shock when I tell them just 4 months old. It still amazes me how perfect strangers still have an opinion about your child even when not asked! For the love...
